How to Add Additional Links to Your Instagram

Do you get frustrated having to change the link in your Instagram bio all the time? The current Instagram platform doesn’t allow hyperlinked URLs in posts or in stories. However, you have the option to add a link to a paid post/story. On the feed, it shows up as a bar at the bottom of your image or video with a call to action like “Learn More” or “Shop Now.” On the story, it shows up at the bottom of the screen with an arrow to swipe up and the call to action below the arrow.

You can also add a free “swipe up” option to stories if you have more than 10,000 followers or a verified account. Since most small businesses aren’t likely to have either of these things, and you don’t want to spend money on every single post/story, how do you make this a little easier for yourself?

There are several tools available to help with this issue. Tools like Linktree, Linkin.bio, Shorby, Lnk.Bio, and Link in Profile offer the option to put a link in your Instagram bio that will take users to a list of links when they click on it. Linkin.bio provides the links via your Instagram images versus buttons, but it is still a tool to add multiple links to your profile. Adding these additional links to your profile with one simple click expands your marketing options on Instagram.

Other tools like ShortStack, Thrive Architect, and Leadpages provide a full landing page, giving you even more customization options for your marketing promotion.

Link tools are beneficial because many brands want to highlight more than one thing on social media at a given time. Directing followers back to your bio and constantly having to change the link in your bio is not only tedious but it limits your ability to market more than one thing at a time. Because the Instagram feed isn’t chronological, your followers might see a post that says “Link in bio” long after you’ve changed your link to highlight something else.

Some might argue that adding an extra step for your consumer is going to discourage them from using these link menus. That’s something you’ll have to take into consideration. Most of the tools also offer analytics that include how many people clicked each link so you can measure whether or not your followers are taking the time to use this function on your Instagram page or not.
